Anita Tortorici

Born in the Bronx, New York City, Anita Tortorici started painting at the age of four. She studied at the School of Art and Pratt Institute in New York where she learned the highly technical aspects of drawing and painting.

While at Pratt Institute, Anita perfected a foundation of method, color and form with a particular affinity for precise, lines and structure.

Anita works entirely in watercolors focusing on a deep examination of the natural world around us. She introduces new dimensions into these explorations, offsetting vibrant colors with delicate washes and undulating rhythms. She makes use of the positive and negative space to create a dramatic feeling of movement.

Her style, refined over decades, uses watercolors in a dynamic manner. Images of the natural world are given a fresh and elegant new interpretation with almost microscopic studies of vegetation.

Anita has lived across the globe from New York City to Greece, Italy, Hong Kong, Australia, the Philippines and San Francisco. She now lives in Northern California.
